SUMMARY:August Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:It’s Christmas in August! At our next meeting on August 15th\, we’re going to be using stencils created by fellow carver Angel Nunez to make ornaments for the hospice house trees. We’ll start off learning how to use the stencil\, then I’ll lead everyone on how to carve a stocking. From there we’ll move on to a snowman. I have both the stocking and the snowman cut out and ready to carve. The goal is to have two almost finished ornaments by the end of the meeting. \nAngel was generous to donate several of his Christmas stencils. If you want to trace some stencils to take home and carve\, you’ll need to bring in your own wood or purchase some at The Woodwork Shop. We’ll be using mainly 3/8 thick by 3” wide by 6” long for the biggest stencils. There are smaller versions too. \nSo bring a glove\, your knives\, gouges and v-tools if you have them and we’ll carve some ornaments. And\, a great big thanks to David Becker for donating all the wood! \nOne other note worth mentioning in relation to this – Methodist hospice house is a go again for this year so we’ll be doing both houses this year\, Methodist and Baptist. I think a realistic goal would be 100 ornaments and split it 50/50. We already have 10 ornaments done plus any that Ted still has from last year.\n

SUMMARY:July Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We have a fantastic meeting planned this month. Rosemary McCane will be doing a demo on chip carving ornaments. After her demo\, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at an ornament that you can keep or donate to one of our upcoming hospice house Christmas trees. The attached pics are some of the ornaments you can choose from. The pics with the trees are carved on both front and back. We’re very fortunate to have some great chippers in our club that can help you too like Jack Tipton\, David Becker and Berry Snyder. I’m also attaching in the comments a great video from The International Association of Woodcarvers featuring master chip carver Marty Leenhouts. This video will get you fully prepared for what Rosemary will be teaching. \n\n\n\n\n\nBefore the demo\, we’ll talk about some upcoming events the club can participate in this fall\, we’ll discuss an idea for the August meeting and I’m starting the President’s Challenge that I hope will be a fun thing for everyone to do.
