SUMMARY:Shelby Street Vendors
DESCRIPTION:Our usual meeting will not take place this Saturday at The Woodwork Shop. Instead\, we’ll be set up with two booths at the first ever Shelby Street Market in Bartlett!\n\n\n\nWe are booth number 55. Set up is from 6:30-8:30. I’ll be there around 7 or a little after. Barry  and Dan are bringing tents and tables\, Pat is bringing a table\, and I’m also bringing a couple of fans and a cooler of water. As you know it’s going to be hot so be prepared! All vehicles have to be moved and our booths set up by 8:30.\n\n\n\nIf you’re coming down Stage Road\, you’ll turn south on Shelby Street. On the corners are The Pharmacy Coffeehouse\, Lopez Grill and the Bartlett United Methodist Church. Our booth location is on the west side of the street under some big trees. You can drive to the location\, drop off your gear/carvings\, and then park in the area behind the buildings. I’ll also have a parking pass for you. I’m attaching several maps and pictures to show you where we’ll be but text or call me if you need help.\n\n\n\nThe market hours are from 9-2. We cannot breakdown until 2. We will also have a blower and a broom to clean up our chips. Bring your carvings to sell and bring your tools to carve. People love to see us do our thing as most have no idea this art still exists. Christopher is also bringing his table to work on signs. There is no electricity available. I’ll be able to accept credit/debit cards if you’re not able to do that and then I’ll pay you the cash you’re owed if you sell your carvings. A small donation back to the club would be appreciated as we did have to pay for these two booths.\n\n\n\nAlso\, take the time to check out other booths! There are over 60 vendors. including food and drink vendors. You can also get some great coffee and breakfast at The Pharmacy Coffeehouse.\n\n\n\nWe are looking forward to this and spreading the word about our fantastic club and the art of woodcarving!\n\nLocated 2873-2841 Shelby Street\, Bartlett\, TN

SUMMARY:August Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:It’s Christmas in August! At our next meeting on August 15th\, we’re going to be using stencils created by fellow carver Angel Nunez to make ornaments for the hospice house trees. We’ll start off learning how to use the stencil\, then I’ll lead everyone on how to carve a stocking. From there we’ll move on to a snowman. I have both the stocking and the snowman cut out and ready to carve. The goal is to have two almost finished ornaments by the end of the meeting. \nAngel was generous to donate several of his Christmas stencils. If you want to trace some stencils to take home and carve\, you’ll need to bring in your own wood or purchase some at The Woodwork Shop. We’ll be using mainly 3/8 thick by 3” wide by 6” long for the biggest stencils. There are smaller versions too. \nSo bring a glove\, your knives\, gouges and v-tools if you have them and we’ll carve some ornaments. And\, a great big thanks to David Becker for donating all the wood! \nOne other note worth mentioning in relation to this – Methodist hospice house is a go again for this year so we’ll be doing both houses this year\, Methodist and Baptist. I think a realistic goal would be 100 ornaments and split it 50/50. We already have 10 ornaments done plus any that Ted still has from last year.\n

SUMMARY:July Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We have a fantastic meeting planned this month. Rosemary McCane will be doing a demo on chip carving ornaments. After her demo\, you’ll have the chance to try your hand at an ornament that you can keep or donate to one of our upcoming hospice house Christmas trees. The attached pics are some of the ornaments you can choose from. The pics with the trees are carved on both front and back. We’re very fortunate to have some great chippers in our club that can help you too like Jack Tipton\, David Becker and Berry Snyder. I’m also attaching in the comments a great video from The International Association of Woodcarvers featuring master chip carver Marty Leenhouts. This video will get you fully prepared for what Rosemary will be teaching. \n\n\n\n\n\nBefore the demo\, we’ll talk about some upcoming events the club can participate in this fall\, we’ll discuss an idea for the August meeting and I’m starting the President’s Challenge that I hope will be a fun thing for everyone to do.
