August Monthly Meeting

It’s Christmas in August! At our next meeting on August 15th, we’re going to be using stencils created by fellow carver Angel Nunez to make ornaments for the hospice house trees. We’ll start off learning how to use the stencil, then I’ll lead everyone on how to carve a stocking. From there we’ll move on to a snowman. I have both the stocking and the snowman cut out and ready to carve. The goal is to have two almost finished ornaments by the end of the meeting.

Angel was generous to donate several of his Christmas stencils. If you want to trace some stencils to take home and carve, you’ll need to bring in your own wood or purchase some at The Woodwork Shop. We’ll be using mainly 3/8 thick by 3” wide by 6” long for the biggest stencils. There are smaller versions too.

So bring a glove, your knives, gouges and v-tools if you have them and we’ll carve some ornaments. And, a great big thanks to David Becker for donating all the wood!

One other note worth mentioning in relation to this – Methodist hospice house is a go again for this year so we’ll be doing both houses this year, Methodist and Baptist. I think a realistic goal would be 100 ornaments and split it 50/50. We already have 10 ornaments done plus any that Ted still has from last year.
